The average person seldom thinks of checking an emotion or thought, but simply yields himself to it when he feels the surge!

Instead of allowing the emotions to run away with him, he must have them under control, by controlling his mental body. He must realize that he is not the mind, but that the mind is only an instrument to be used by him.

We are a soul, living in a physical body, which is not easy if one thinks how freely we can move around in other dimensions, using vehicles suitable to move around in those spheres. Although it still takes time to move around in the Astral Plane (probably four minutes to get to the other side of the world!), we move instantly from place to place in the mental body on the Mental Plane.

Therefore, one just has to think of someone or something, and you are instantly there.

We usually visit these other dimensions during sleep or meditation, but it is possible to do so while awake. It needs training, but it also requires that you have a body (or vehicle) developed to use when visiting there.

While dreaming, we often fly around in our Astral bodies, but usually can't control where we go and get lost in the 'dreamworld', not remembering much when we wake up. Nevertheless, we perceive the Astral plane as very much the same as our physical world.

The plane above the Astral plane is called the Mental plane. Where you can go in the Mental plane, depends on how developed your mental body is.

Each one of the seven planes of existence, has seven sub-levels. The mental body is built of particles of the four lower sub-divisions of the mental world. The Causal body (Higher Mental Body) is built from higher grades of matter.

In additional to ordinary mental matter, the mental body also contains mental elemental essense.

As we know, the physical body is made up of cells, each one being a tiny separate life. The same thing applies to mental and astral bodies. These cells have no real intelligence and reasoning, only a very strong instinct pressing downwards into matter.

What does the mental body look like? It is avoid, with the matter of the mental body not evenly distributed throughout the egg. The physical body, in the centre of the avoid, strongly attracts astral matter, while the astral matter in turn, strongly attracts mental matter.

We thus find that the greater part of both the astral and mental bodies is gathered around the physical frame. A clairvoyant may see the mental body as built from dense mist, with the same shape as the physical body, surrounded by an avoid of much finer mist.

Because the mental body seems to have the same shape as the physical body, we can as easily recognize someone on the mental plane, just as we do in the physical world.

What we call the 'mental aura', is the part of the mental body which extrudes beyond the periphery of the physical body.

The size of the both the mental & astral bodies is the same size as the causal body (the section of the causal body on the lower planes). The physical body has remained much the same size since Atlantean days, but the mental body grows in size as a person develops.

It is interesting that the particles of the mental body are in ceaseless motion, constantly changing as the mental body draws matter from the general storehouse that can maintain the combinations already existing in it.

Although the particles inside the mental body are moving intensely fast among themselves, the mental body has a loose organisation. It is divided irregularly into segments, each of the segments corresponding to a certain part of the physical brain, so that each thought should function through a specifically assigned portion.

In ordinary people, the mental body is so imperfectly developed, that many of these special departments are not yet in activity. Any attempt at thought belonging to those departments, is forced to travel round through an inappropriate channel which is alreay fully open.

Thought on those subjects would be clumsy and uncomprehending, and we can now understand why some people can understand and enjoy e.g. music or maths, while others simply can't.

Good thoughts, producing vibrations in the finer matter of the mental body, tends to float, due to its specific gravity, in the upper part of the avoid, while bad thoughts like selfishness, made of the grosser matter, gravitate towards the lower part of the avoid.

Thus, the ordinary person who generally has selfish thoughts of all kinds, usually expands the lower part of his mental body, making the mental body look like an egg with the larger end downwards.

On the other hand, the person who has devoted himself to higher thoughts, tends to expand the upper part of the mental body.

The mental body is refined according to the stage of intellectual development of the person.  As the intellect becomes more highly evolved and focused on pure and sublime topics, the mental body becomes an object of great beauty, with the rapid motion of the delicate particles looking like a living iridescent light!

Every thought gives rise to vibrations and a play of colour in the mental body.

Each mental body has a single molecule or unit, called the 'mental unit'. This mental unit remains with us during all our reincarnations. The materials of the mental body is scattered and re-gathered over and over again, life after life, but the mental unit remains stable all the time.

We may see the mental unit as the 'heart' of the mental body.

The function of permanent atoms, and of the mental unit, is to preserve within themselves, as vibrating powers, all the results of previous experiences through which the bodies with which they were associated in past lives, have been through.

The activities of the mind fall into certain classes or divisions; these divisions being expressed through different parts of the mental unit.

In the mental world we find certain definately localised thought-centres, which are actual places in space, to which thoughts of a similar type are drawn by the similarity of their vibrations.

Thoughts on a specific subject gravitate to one of these centres, which absorbs any number of ideas, right or wrong. The centre is a type of focus for all the converging lines of thought on the specific subject, here linked by millions of lines with all other types of subjects.

Any person who thinks deeply about a specific subject, brings himself in touch with that group of vortices. If he is in his mental body (asleep or 'dead'), he is drawn to the appropriate part of the mental plane.

It is the influence of thought-centres on people that make people think like everybody else, because it is much easier for a lazy person to mentally accept a ready-made thought from someone else, than going through the mental effort of thinking it out for himself.

We live in a three-dimensional physical world, while the Astral Plane is four-dimensional and the mental plane five-dimensional. It is thus not easy for us to bring down to the physical consciousness what we experienced or saw on the mental plane. We first have to overcome the difficult operation of a double transference from the higher to the lower, since the memory must be brought though the intervening astral plane.

In order to bring the consciousness of the mental body into the physical brain, we must first develop the links between the different bodies. These links connect the dense and etheric bodies with the astral, the astral with the mental body and the mental with the causal body. It is the action of the will that vivifies them.

Once you learn how to leave the physical body in waking consciousness and developed the links between your vehicles, you will bridge the gulf between physical life and sleep life! It is then quite easy to move your consciousness to various part of these planes when closing your eyes; yet still awake to reason! Strange concept?

How do we prepare ourselves for receiving vibrations of higher consciousness into the physical vehicle? We have to purify the lower bodies by pure food and pure life, total subjugation of the passions, cultivate an even, balanced mind and temper, and create a habit of regular quiet meditation.

Furthermore, stop the hurrying through life, the restlessness and hurrying of the mind and develop a genuine love for the things of the higher worlds.

Once you can use the mental faculties in ordinary waking consciousness, you will be able to receive many types of impressions from the mental world.

It is important to distinguish beteen impulse and intuition.

Both come to the brain from within, and seem at first to be exactly the same, thus be careful.

  • If possible, wait for a while, because impulses usually grow weaker, while intuitions remain unaffected by the passage of time.
  • An impulse is usually accompanied by excitement, and has something personal about it, while true intuition is surrounded by a sense of calm strength.
  • An impulse is usually a surge through the astral body, while intuition is a bit of knowledge from the ego (soul), impressed on the personality; thus coming from the higher mental plane, or even from the buddhic plane.
  • In order to distinguish between impulse and intuition, wait a while and you will find that the impulse dies under balanced, calm consideraion and delay, while true intuition with grow clearer and stronger under these circumstances.
  • Calmness and serenity helps the lower mind more clearly to hear the intuition and feel its power.
  • Intuition loses nothing from calm delay, but gains from it.
  • Intuition is always connected with something unselfish. It there is the slightest touch of selfishness in an impulse coming from a higher plane, it is certain that it is not an intuitional buddhic thought, but an astral impulse.

THE INTUITION OF THE UNINTELLIGENT IS IMPULSE, BORN OF DESIRE,
AND IS LOWER, NOT HIGHER, THAN REASONING.

 Thought-control is essential for the development of the powers of the soul. It does not mean that the mind must be destroyed; it must be dominated and mastered, because it is not the man himself, but only and instrument for him to train and use.

We must exercise the greatest care as to what thoughts and emotions we permit ourselfves to entertain. The ordinary person seldom thinks of even attempting to check an emotion. Instead of allowing the emotions to run away with him, he must get them absolutely under control. It can only be done by developing and controlling the mental body.

We must set the task of mastering both the emotions and the mind; know exactly what we are thinking about and why, so that we can use our minds, turn it or hold it still. In other words, acquire the power of concentration, learn to think steadily and consecutively, not allowing the mind to run suddenly from one thing to another, wasting energies over a large amount of insignificant thoughts.

Most people find that all sorts of stray thoughts rush into their consciousness unbidden, just because they are not used to controlling the mind and thus powerless to stem the current.

In today's busy world, there are likely to be more evil thoughts than good ones floating around, and this weakness opens man to all sorts of temptations which, with a little care and effort might have avoided altogether.
