Why study this course?

The Hypnotherapy Certification Course is internationally accredited and has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to practice as a Certified Hypnotherapist and to gain membership in the IMDHA (International Medical & Dental Hypnotherapy Association: USA), SAHA (South African Hypnotherapy Association) and EPASA (Ethnomedicine Practitioners Association of South Africa).

It provides grounding in trance state (hypnosis): (susceptibility, inductions, deepening, suggestion, etc.), and then builds on those skills to train you in the art of applying hypnosis in therapy.  Becoming a competent and effective practitioner requires a dual emphasis: first that you know what to do, and second, that you develop the qualities of being authentic and congruent in terms of your own reactions and beliefs.

Course overview

Hypnosis is an exciting and relevant qualification in the field of therapy and counselling.  It has been used in different forms and modalities since the earliest recorded human experience. The history of hypnosis demonstrates how it changed and evolved over many centuries, to present day applications of modern and traditional techniques supported by evidence based outcomes.  Seen in this context, trance state therapy, known as hypnotherapy is largely applied as a treatment model e.g. treating fears and phobias, anxiety, weight-loss, stop smoking, etc.

However, many researchers have identified how uniquely suited hypnotherapy is to transpersonal applications through its technologies for state change, and what is called a consciousness model.   We now see a reawakening of the potential of hypnosis in transpersonal applications for realising our true potential and purpose.

The IMDHA certification course embraces the clinical and transpersonal approaches to the practice of Hypnotherapy.  It is structured around two learning objectives:

Learning Objective 1:
The course provides a thorough understanding of Hypnotherapy practice in its clinical application, with the emphasis on treatment.  Students learn the techniques of hypnosis and suggestion, and how to apply hypnosis in therapy: parts therapy/ego state therapy, ideomotor signals, hypnoanalysis, age regression, dream analysis, Neurolinguistic Programming modelling of behaviour and experience, Soul Regression Therapy and Hypnoanesthesia.

Advanced techniques for uncovering and treating specific outcomes are included in the clinical applications of Analytical Trance State Therapy and Hypnoanalysis, where students learn how to find a pattern in a Word Association Test, to uncover the ISE (cause of the problem), and successfully eliminate the cause to achieve physical and emotional healing.

The course is structured to teach a more rapid treatment methodology, which combines the speed and efficacy of the cognitive-behavioral approach, plus the depth of the psychoanalytic tradition through a therapeutic system known as Hypnoanalysis to achieve long-lasting results.

Learning Objective 2:
The course provides the student opportunity for growth and self-discovery leading to the development of personal confidence and self-awareness.  The objective of the course is for the student to be a competent, self-aware facilitator of change, by understanding the role that not only the mind plays, but the full interaction of body, mind and soul. In order to understand ourselves and others, it is necessary to know who we are, where we come from and what our deepest objectives and needs are, while gaining the tools to assist in dealing with those hidden parts of ourselves and clients that cannot speak for themselves.

Hypnotherapy may be used as a process for meaningful change, which the client engages in to achieve their own healing outcomes. So, you are encouraged to approach the study of trance state as a “mindfulness” or “experiential” encounter, and not simply as an academic intellectual exercise. The skills obtained in the course can be adopted and added to the wide variety of methods of the cognitive therapist, the psychoanalytic therapist and other practitioners. Although we perceive ourselves as only one “I”, you are actually a single person who is made up of a number of different states; each has its own feeling of power, weakness, emotion, logic, or other personal traits.

A range of hypnotherapy techniques are demonstrated, and students become skilled in applying those techniques through role play, case study, and classroom practicals.  The emphasis throughout is on applying the techniques and processes in working with clients; with over 160 hours of supervised practice in the class, complimented by home study and practice, resulting in 400 hours training. After completion of four sets of consecutive 5 days training, the practitioner has a thorough background of all aspects of Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching, Advanced Soul/Past Life regression, Hypnoanesthesia, which all include various cultural methods leading to advanced studies in Ethnopyschology. The course is structured over five days to have continuity during practical analysis in order to achieve the desired healing outcome.

The study of hypnotherapy is contained within a client-centered counselling framework. Students learn codes of conduct, ethics, legal requirements and working in a multi-cultural environment.

Career outcomes

This course is relevant to individuals who wish to enter a private Hypnotherapy practice, or who wish to work in organizations providing counselling services, such as: government agencies, alcohol and drug rehabilitation centres, community health centres, outreach services, corrections and many other human services environments.

After completion of Basic and Advanced Hypnosis, the student will be fully equipped to work as a Life Coach, while completion of the full 20 days, and successful completion of exam allow student to register with the IMDHA as Certified Hypnotherapist (CHt).

Additional studies (Module 2&3) serve as upgrade requirements for registration with various associations to work as Ethnopsychology Practitioner/Diviner under the Traditional Health Practitioners Act.
